'Greenlight' is this case doesn't mean much unfortunately. MGM has a lot of issues to over come if this is to be made.

Nope! That is all dealt with. If MGM cannot come up with the cash in time, Warner Bros. agreed to finance it and take the debt out of the returns owed!

The only thing currently in the air is where they will film. Hopefully in New Zealand, but with the Equity Actors Union thing going on that is not definite. Hopefully it gets worked out though!

Like i said, plenty to work through. No cast yet, if not filmed in New Zealand, all pre production is wasted. ETC.

There was a union thing going on so none of the actors in New Zealand would work in New Zealand. I don't know much about it. But, it's all fixed. And casting has been done, and they are now doing it in New Zealand for sure. So all pre-production no not for not. So filming should begin in February.

Here's the small section of the problem that occurred.



Actors guilds including SAG, AFTRA and several international unions
have issued an alert against the big-budget adaptation of "The
Hobbit," stating that their members "are advised not to accept work
on this non-union production." The guilds say the producers of the
MGM/New Line fantasy blockbuster, to be
directed by Peter Jackson, have rebuffed organizing efforts by
the New Zealand unit of an Australian actors union.

I don't care about disputes or how long it takes to get the movie made, etc, just as long as when it is done, it's up to the standard that was set in the LOTR trilogy.

Don't worry. it is being filmed in New Zealand. That is confirmed. They have also cast Bilbo and 10 of the Dwarves. Possibly cast Radagast as well. Hopefully news on Sirkis, McKellan and Weaving soon!

This si a movie I've been waiting for them to make. It should be good.

I've never read the hobbit, but I'm still looking forward to a film that will be as good as the Trilogy was

Not signed, but in negotiations.

I don't think I'd like anyone other than Ian McKellen to play Gandalf.

Is Howard Shore gonna do the score soundtrack for this film by any chance? I loved his work on the trilogy

McKellan is now signed as is Cate Blanchett. Also, Howard Shore is confirmed to reprise his scoring duties with The Hobbit!

That just made me smile. (I can't jump up and do the happy dance as I am at work and I would be looked at strangely if I did. )

McKellan was never going to be a problem. He wanted to do a TBS miniseries not long after the trilogy came out. It was just a matter of crossing the t's and dotting the i's with him.
