PostSubject: Up to page 176 (Spoilers Warning)   Fri Mar 12, 2010 12:55 am

After finishing Lord of Isles I finally moved back to Game of Thrones. I'd say what Chapter I'm on, but he doesn't number them and I'm too damn lazy to count through them, so you get a page number instead Razz

I'm liking the way it's developing so far. Nothing fast-paced and exciting so far, but the plot is moving along nicely, with a few twists already that's got me trying to guess what's to come. I figure that if a book can make me want to guess what'll happen, it's doing it's job. It's when I don't even care to guess that I know a book isn't doing it for me.

I'm getting to know all the characters (and there's quite a few) that I'm guessing will be the major characters in at least this book and maybe beyond. Some interesting variety to all of them, and none that seem really one dimensional.

This Tyrion guy, the disfigured brother of the villainous Laime Lannister (sp?) is real interesting for me. The last chapter I read he was implicated by another character as likely being behind the assassination attempt on Bran, but I suspect there's some knowing manipulation there either by the character who made that indirect accusation (all he did was say who the knife that the assassin wielded belonged to) or by someone behind the scenes, like Laime Lannister himself.

I love Arya. Quite a little spunky lass, willing to beat up the Crown Prince in front of her stuck up older sister in order to defend herself and who she likes. As much as I dislike said stuck up sister, Sansa, I'm saddened that her direwolf was already killed (though I wasn't clear if that actually happened or Ned pulled one over on the Queen? DON'T TELL ME! I WANT TO FIND OUT MYSELF Razz). I'm liking Jon Snow too, he's similar to Arya (which would explain why they're close for half-siblings). He's got a bit more darkness to him though, and I'm expecting to be pleasantly surprised when I find out his origin (read: his mother).

Wish you were further along--I've read them all, and can't wait for you to get to some parts that are truly great so we can discuss them. You've picked out the best characters, in my opinion--Snow, Arya, and Tyrion (Jamie, by the way Razz ).

Really? When I was reading (and understanding who the name was referring to rather than just some random name I didnt know yet) it last night I thought it was Jaime, I even remember thinking it was a strange name to have...

I'm reading a a few chapters a night, but I know that as I usually do when it picks up and gets near the end I'll be totally hooked and read the last 1/3 in one night.

Lord of the Isles I read the last half straight one night until almost 8 am...

Yeah, you're probably right. Spelling was never my strong suit. Either way, it's not Laime. Razz

Good to see you enjoying the book Calwyn! I am still having a hard time getting into it. Hopefully eventually I will be able to.

I'm on book two myself, and I must say, my favorite charachters are Jon, Arya, Tyrion, and I actually want to know more about Varys (sp?).

Great books, yea, nuff said. Razz
