| Went and saw Conan The Barbarian over the weekend. It was pretty good, lots of good action scenes, kind of short on plot, but for an action movie, was pretty good. Good eye candy throughout, all in all, a good movie. | |

| I thought it was pretty cheesy and terrible myself. | |

| I want to see this movie ... I figure that so long as the "new" Conan can do more than grunt, it will be a vast improvement over the original I doubt I will be disappointed ... the first was horrible, yet fascinating at the same time ... Even if this one is only "middle of the road", I think it will still be entertaining. | |

| Not one I really care to see. I'll catch it on DVD. Maybe. | |

I won't say the guy's performance was great acting, cuz it wasn't, but he was an upgrade over Arnold. If you keep in mind its an action movie without much of a plot, you should have fun. BTW, if you see it, see if you can name some of the actors who play major characters, I came up with 3. There were more than that, but I could only name 3 until I looked them up.

| The first Conan movies were actually pretty true to the spirit of the books. Red Sonya as well. Conan done as a modern action film would destroy the whole concept. He's NOT a modern action hero, and shouldn't be portrayed as one. He's a barbarian, and the books (and early movies) show what that means (mostly, strong muscles and weak brain, to be honest).
I'm afraid to see this movie. I've actually found myself.....not liking, but respecting the character more since I've read some of the books. His character is jarring to modern tastes, and the concept at the core (civilization vs. barbarism, with barbarism held as the ideal) is a very profound one. Neither will make a good movie, I think.

| Never read any of the books - the premise just didn't appeal to me. But the original Arnold move was good in a campy sort of way - kind of like Fargo ... horrid movie, but I've seen it more times than I can remember | |

| The books are good, I've read most of them at one time or another. The first movies were good at their time, in this one, The guy they got for Conan definately has muscles and does really well with the sword fights.
And yes, the originals are campy and fun to watch. My only issue with them is sometimes Arnold was tough to understand, that's why I believe this guy is an upgrade.
