Started watching this earlier this week and I'm several episodes into the second season. I'd seen a few segments of it on and off over the past few years, but I must say, given my positive experience watching the movie, I had a lot to look forward to. I'm glad I got into it. Fun television... Nickelodeon doesn't always suck.

I enjoy the series, which is why I wanted the movie to not suck.

Yeah, I'm eyeballs-deep into an Airbender addiction right now Very Happy I actually fully expected to hate the show when I first saw it, but it won me over pretty quickly, and now the DVR weeps for mercy.

Hopefully Avatar: The Legend of Korra will be just as good.

Oh, and whenever you finish watching the series, check out Avatar: The Abridged Series. It's funny Smile

What is "The Legend of Korra"? Nickelodeon animated movie, or perhaps a new series? I'm intrigued.

Gotta love Sokka... Best character of the series... reminds rainshadow of rainshadow. Crazy stupid and crazy smart, all at the same time.

Series, about the avatar after Aang. I think it's being made by the same people, so hopefully it will be up to the same standards.

But can Rainshadow use a boomerang?

It always comes back. Very Happy

If I had one, that is.

Yeah, I looked into the Korra series after posting... it is by the same guys. I have high hopes for the series now. They didn't have much to say about Shyamalan's version of the story (usually that means they aren't impressed but want to remain politically correct).

I was going to finish off the series tonight, but when I got to the last episode on NetFlix I found out that it is a three part episode (I'm guessing it was released as a TV movie on Nickelodeon to conclude the series). I guess I'll just have to wait until after work tomorrow.

This series has it all; I can see why kids love it, but the writers also have a deep and mature connection to the characters. Storytelling and character development has never been a real strongsuit of American animation (or television in general for that matter), but NickToons connected on a pair of excellent shows in Rugrats and Avatar. Hope they can keep the ball rolling on the latter with Korra; if the writers show even half of the heart as they had for Aang and the gang, they'll have a hell of a show on their hands.

Turns out it was a 4-parter...

Hands down my favorite American cartoon (and I was a Transformers freak growing up). Love the whole message about being true to one's self.

I think part of what makes the show so good is that the creators don't seem to look at it as a "kid's show" (except of course for making sure that they keep everything at the TV Y7 rating level). I mean, the episode "The Firebending Master" was inspired by Heart of Darkness (which is the longest 96 page book ever written).

It seems that rather than say "hey, kids watch this, better cutesy it up and take out anything remotely intellectual" they said "ok, kids watch this, so how can we explore these themes without making it inaccessible to children?" The show discusses everything from the horrors of war (pow camps, family's being separated, death, freaking genocide) to the average issues a kid might face (sibling rivalry, having to take on responsibility, relationships).

These people took their art seriously (was it really necessary to hire an expert in ancient Chinese calligraphy? They thought so) and it shows. Now if we could only get more tv made like this...

I've seen about a dozen episodes throughout the years, and have loved the show. I decided that I'd stream them all through net flicks, and am now on season three. Such a great show. The only sad thing is net flicks now keeps telling I'll enjoy some terrible cartoons, that are supposedly just like avatar. :eyeroll:

Alright. They released a Avatar: Legend of Korra preview at comic-com. I've watched like 5 times. Awesomeness. Too bad it doesn't come out till next year some time. Sad

This one will be more geared toward teenagers. I'm quite excited to see how it goes.
