Paul (Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Seth Rogan)
Let's start with some honesty. There will be a lot of people that enjoyed this movie far more than I did. I am not a fan of the latest trend of "stupid for stupid's sake" comedy movies. Admittedly, that has left me rather jaded when it comes to any comedy movie lately.
Luckily, this movie was not that. Sure, it has a few moments where the levels of facepalm worthy stupidity reared their ugly head, but they were minor and over quickly.
Two comic-con geeks from England meet an Alien in Nevada. Hilarity ensues. Sounds like a good premise for a movie, which is why I decided to watch this one.
I'm happy to say that I am glad I did. Acting was average at best, but what can you ask of a Sci Fi Comedy really ... it's not like one expects to be moved by an actors portrayal of a comic-con geek
I have to give credit where credit is due. This movie had much more of a plot than I expected. I think that truly helped with their ability to use the plot to generate some good situational comedy. I would warn folks though - if you are of the religious persuasion that doesn't like religion being made fun of ... you've been warned - it's not an overbearing theme, but it does play along for a fair part of the movie.
Aliens & Comedy, yes. Good for the kids? Nope. I'm an adult with no kids of my own - that means I don't even bother to look at ratings for movies - I'd say this would be at least a 16+ ... lots of swearing.
I'd best describe this movie as E.T. for adults.
