Just outta curiousity (I think I missed the memo on this), is the chat coming back?

Omni has an xchat server, however at the moment people can't register themselves (he says this will be fixed in "an omnilord minute").

You could also PM me, and I can poke him with a stick until he makes a login for you.

Chat has always been there, just no one PMed me for access! Anyway, feel free to register, just send the authcode to BrassButtons and we'll make sure you get instructions for connectivity.

FYI, Rainshadow used to have a Javachat, but that stopped working a long long time ago. I've had an IRC chat server for quite a while now. Dinwar, BrassButtons and myself are the regular denizens, and there have been occationals from lalib and talonnolan. I would love if a few more would join.

I haven't been on there since you took away RL use. So.... months. I wouldn't even really know how to get on it now.

To clarify, when I moved I was unable to continue to afford Javachat. A lot of stuff happened here about 6 months ago when I quit my job and moved across state. Most of it good, but being a bit short on cash since then... well, it was a sacrifice I was willing to make to move to a town I love and out of a job I despised.

N/P. My IRC doesn't cost anything, so win-win!

Anyway, I think a more verbose explanation is in order for how this one works.

Step #1. Register: http://halley.omnilord.is-a-geek.com/irc/register.php

Step #2. PM your authcode from #1 to BB.

Step #3. Acquire an IRC Client. I recommend http://www.silverex.org/download/xchat-2.8.6-2.exe if you are on Windows. X-Chat is also available for you Linux junkies, just use your favorite package manager to get it. Mac users...you are on your own, I don't know Mac, sorry.

Step #4. Wait for acknowledgement from BB that your account has been activated.

Step #5. Follow the instructions in the link BB sends you to setup X-Chat. (I'm not providing the link here because it contains connectivity data and I want to limit unsolicited traffic to a minimum).

Step #6. Login and wait for people. BB and I generally leave our computers on all day so we will be in the list, but if neither of us responds quickly, we may be AFK. Just hang out for a while, and check in ever couple of minutes for activity.

Hope this clears things up a bit for those of you already registered!

If you mess up, just go back and do it again ... if the xChat window is open, the go to XChat -> Network List and you can pick and edit your settings for each connection, including the new one for omnilord.

I don't get steps 8 and 9. what am I supposed to do there? and what I type into step 3, does that supposed revert back to it saying New Network?

2: Click Add
3: Type in omnilord's server name as it is shown in the picture when New Network appears (overwrite the New Network title)
4: off-click from that then Highlight the new name you just created and select Edit

8: select the [...] box and choose the #World Builders channel
9: enter the password you created initially for your account

I still got nothing....I'm beyond hopeless....sigh...lost cause right here lol

nope. got that part worked out fine...its something after the editing part past step 4 *shrug*

1: Insert desired user names, using pre-registered name in Nick Name & User Name
2: Click ADD in Network section
3: Edit name of New Network
4: Ensure the new omnilord network is highlighted and select EDIT
5: Click & Edit the name of the Server - do not forget to include port location
6: Off Click in blank area to save changes in step 5
7: Select Auto-COnnect checkbox
8: Use [...] Drop DOwn box to find & select the World Builders channel
9: Server Password: Enter password your made for yourself when registering
10: Close to save
11: Check the Skip Network List option
12: While ensuring omnilord network is still highlighted, click connect
13: Close

*Note* Be aware of the difference in names and punctuation between step 3 and step 5.

Other than having to manually enter omnilord's server name, it's really one of the simpler setup's I've had to do for a chat program. If those instructions don't work, I'd say it's time to un-install xChat, reboot, and re-install it with a fresh download of the installation executable.

You can also type in #World-Builders in #8.

That would keep things sane for me because I still can't figure out how IMagius got a drop down without connecting to the server first which requires #9 & #10 before it will be allowed.

Question Carnage ... are you connecting from home, school or work? Talking with Omni earlier ... some schools/businesses block irc clients so you wouldn't be able to connect.

Also, is there a chance your home firewall is blocking your connection?
