| I have this large-scale personal research project, brought about by the fact that I think all mammal paleontologists are Doing It Wrong and, well, I'm going to show them how to PROPERLY do science! Ideally the end result will be the most god-aweful boring book ever written, basically going through the entire mammal clade genus by genus and giving a basic description of post-craneal osteology (translation: bones from the neck down/back). I know this needs done because I've asked a number of paleontologists about it, and the response was to laugh at me, and then the phrase "Maybe one day you'll write it." Challenge accepted, my good sirs! The process is fairly simple (this is a literature search right now; examination of specimens will occur later, if at all), and so far a fair bit of fun for me--I get to sit at home, drink Jameson, surf the web, and actually legitimately claim to be contributing to society! Here's my question: I know this is a creative writer's guild. Would I be allowed to create something of a running journal for this project here? I mean, the end result will be a book--if nothing else, I'll find someone to print the thing for myself (you have no idea how useful this would be). And I'm arrogant enough to think that some people may be interested in reading about my research. Or at least, they might be interested in reading about how a research project goes, from start to (hopefully) finish. And it'd keep me a bit more organized than I currently have been--if I knew I had a weekly progress report to do, I'd actually do stuff on it instead of playing Skyrim in the evenings. However, this is not fiction, and I thought I'd ask before starting a thread. It's a bit beyond the scope of the site, after all. So is this something that would be appropriate here? And would anyone be interested in reading such a thread? | |

| I'd be interested! And I think my brother-in-law might have some passing interest (he's not on this forum but he might check it out for this). He was talking about something that sounded like this a few years ago. I just love reading research projects too x.x | |

| Something tells me Rainshadow isn't going to complain about the idea of more content on the site Having some nonfiction writing could also be interesting for comparitive purposes. And research is definitely a part of creative writing (as well as other creative endeavors) so knowing how good research is conducted is useful. I already have a passing interest in this project, so I'd follow along. At the very least I'd check regularly to see if you'd linked any cool pictures | |

| Speaking for the staff, yes, this is fine. We can even create your own sub forum for you to post in if you'd like. Let us know. | |
